The Power of Our Words
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits." - Proverbs 18:21
Have you ever stopped to think about the power of your words? The things you say have the potential to change someone's life for better or for worse.
As believers, we understand that the words we speak hold power. After all, God created the world with His words. He spoke and the universe came into being. In the same way, our words have the power to create and destroy, to build up and tear down.
Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that death and life are in the power of the tongue. Our words have the power to bring life and hope or death and destruction. That's why it's so important to be mindful of what we say and how we say it.
Think back to a time when someone spoke words of encouragement or affirmation over you. Maybe it was a teacher who believed in you, a parent who spoke love and acceptance over you, or a friend who reminded you of your worth. Those words probably stuck with you and gave you the confidence to keep going.
On the flip side, you might also remember a time when someone's words cut you to the core. Maybe a bully said something hurtful, or a friend betrayed you with their words. Those words probably stayed with you for a long time and affected the way you saw yourself.
As children of God, we have the opportunity to speak life and hope into the lives of others. We can use our words to encourage, uplift, and inspire those around us. We can be a voice of hope in a world that so often speaks words of hate and division.
So, let's make a conscious effort to use our words for good. Let's choose to speak life, hope, and love into the lives of those around us. As we do, we'll see the power of our words at work, building up the people and the world around us.
