Die To Self

“One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, ‘Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute, who sits by many waters. With her the kings of the earth committed adultery, and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.” (Revelation 17:1-2)

Yesterday, we talked about Hosea and how he took a prostitute to be his wife. This story is in the Bible because it paints a picture of how God chases after us no matter how unfaithful we are. Revelation 17 also speaks of a prostitute. But this time, it is not a specific woman. The prostitute is a symbol of unfaithfulness to God.

During the seven years of the tribulation, imagine the chaos and crisis in the world. Even though believers will be raptured to heaven, there will still be worship. Because worship is what we are wired to do. Those still on earth will give their affection and adoration to something or someone else.

The false church or the one world church that is here that is being displayed and described, is known as a prostitute. She’s quite popular. The Bible says she was seated on many waters. That’s a statement of popularity. The Bible would say that the dwellers on the earth have become drunk in this level of influence.

This is because the one world church does not have the message, “die to self.” It does not have a message of a narrow road. It is actually a message of a broad road. As we preach, “say no to the flesh, say no to the lust of the eyes and the pride of life,” the one world church will have an opposite message; if it feels good, do it. That is the number one principle of the Satanic church, if it feels good, do it, no matter the cost.

This does not just go for the end times. This is how many live now. Hook up with her, it’ll feel good. Drink this, it’ll feel good. Smoke this, it’ll feel good. Watch this, you’ll feel good. But there are serious consequences to this type of living. That is why God tells us to die to ourselves. When we do, we can fight our earthly urges, and seek the things of Him — things that will reap far greater consequences.

The principle of die to self will save you a lot of pain. Next time you are told “try it, it will feel good,” remember the price, and remember, God will give you a way out and a way to follow Him instead.
