Living Ready
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.” (Matthew 24:42-43)
Over the last few days we have talked about the church and analogies made to the body, branch, and bride. Jesus made the comparison of the bride as He said husbands should love their wives as He loved the church. We learned that in the Eastern world, during these times, there were arranged marriages and husbands and their fathers bought the bride at a price.
We know God bought the church at a price as He gave His life for us. And that is where the comparison came in. But it does not stop there. See, with these arranged marriages, the bride did not know the actual date of the wedding. She didn’t have it already set. The groom would go to his father’s house and he would add onto his father’s project and when the construction came to a close, he would get all his boys together, called groomsmen, get a musician, and be on their way to get the bride.
But the bride never knew when this day was coming. So how did she plan for a wedding? She was always ready. Every day she woke up ready, waiting for the sound of a trumpet.
So how does this relate to you? Are you ready for Christ to come back? If He were to call you home to Him today, are you ready?
As believers, God wants us to be living ready. This does not mean be content with where you are and stop living. God wants you to continue in the purpose of God, but to live in such a way that if He called you home at any moment, you would be ready. The bride never knew when her wedding day would come, but she was always ready for it. Know that there will be a day when God calls you home, and live ready for that moment!
