You Really Can Have It!

“Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires.” - Psalm 37:3-4

There is a chapter in Psalm, chapter 37, that has more power than we even realize. It is a chapter that tells us that we can have the desires of our hearts. In fact, that is exactly what verses 3-4 say; “Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires.”

“The land,” in this case, is not just land, but the thing you want most. It’s the thing that you have been praying and asking God for. Or it’s the thing you haven’t even had the courage to ask Him for yet. Maybe you don’t think He will give it to you. If you are reading this today, it is no accident. God wants to tell you that you really can have the desires of your heart!

Now, when reading Psalm 37, most pastors or speakers will immediately try to throw some water on the fire. They don’t want you to get too excited. They will say things like, “God will give you your desires, but only when they align with Him. If they don’t align with His will, He won’t give it to you.”

But that is not what the Scripture says. It doesn’t say anything about not giving it to you. The chapter doesn’t say “but… only if… except for…” What it does say when you read it carefully is that if you will delight yourself in Him, He will give you your heart’s desires.

See, this beautiful thing happens when you delight yourself in God. He gives you a heart like Him. He transforms what you want into what He wants for you. The things you want align with what He wants. He doesn’t force it upon you. You naturally desire the things of Him as you spend more and more time with Him.

There is no wrench to be thrown in this chapter. We don’t need bad news or a “realistic” perspective. This is the real perspective. When you delight yourself in the Lord, and you pursue Him first, YOU REALLY CAN HAVE WHAT YOU WANT MOST! That is a promise from God. I want you to claim this promise today!
