An Illusion of Time

“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.” - Proverbs 27:1

One day, Satan called his three highest-ranking demons to a meeting. He said, “I need a strategy to distract and disorient people away from God. I want people to get away from God. What strategy and tactic can I use?"

So the first demon came up and said, “What if we told everyone that the Bible isn’t real?” Satan thought about it. He said, “No, no, no, that won’t do. There are too many people who have hidden the Word of God in their hearts that know it’s real. I need something else.”

The second demon came up and said, “Satan, what if we told everyone God doesn’t love them?” He became infuriated. He said, “This is not enough. That is not a good tactic. There are too many people that know about the love of God. What can I use to get people away from God?”

A third demon came up to Satan and said, “What if… what if we can convince them of the illusion of time?” Satan asked what the demon meant. He said, “What if we told people that they had time to get right with God? What if we convinced people that they had time to come to Him? They could put the purpose and the plan that God has for their life on the back burner.”

The demon said they could tell people that they have time to come around to God whenever they feel like it. And Satan has been using this tactic ever since. Now, this is a fictional story, but it is one that really hits home for many believers.

We know the Bible is real. We know that Jesus means what He says and says what He means. We also know that God loves us. We never question that. But far too often, we struggle with this illusion of time.

Make no mistake about it. Tomorrow is not promised. Make the most of every day. And do not fall into Satan’s trap, believing the lie that you can “come around to that whenever you feel like it.”
