Not The Rain
“I am writing to you who are God’s children because your sins have been forgiven through Jesus.” - 1 John 2:12
If someone asked you, “Who are you?” what would you say? You might tell them your name, people you are related to, people who are in your friend group, what your job is, or where you live. While these things are “about” you, they really don’t answer the question.
“Who are you?” This is a question of identity. What is your identity? Phrase it that way, and you are bound to get varying answers. Sadly, far too many people wrap their identity up in what they do. Not just career-wise, but in their habits and actions.
This can be both positive actions, for those who are high achievers in something specific like art, music, or sports, and it can also be negative actions, like being “a drunk, “a druggy,” or “a sex addict.”
As a society, we have been programmed to associate who we are with what we do. But God wants you to know that that’s not how it works. Your identity is not about what you do, but whose you are. Your sin is NOT your identity.
1 John 2:12 says, “I am writing to you who are God’s children because your sins have been forgiven through Jesus.”
There is a great quote that says, “I may walk in the rain, I may feel the rain, but I am not the rain.” My friend, you might walk in sin at points in your life. You may feel terrible for the decisions you have made. But you ARE NOT SIN. Your identity is not in the mistakes you have made but in whom you belong to.
You are His and you are FREE. Free to be who He has called you to be. Your identity? It’s not in what you do. It’s in whom you belong to. You are not the rain!

Thank you for the message. Could I please ask you to pray for me. I have been going to cbc since 2017, and I have found my life changed by going to this church and following and knowing Jesus through the vehicle of the church. The enemy has attacked my life, my livelihood and my freedom. Please lift me and my sweet daughter Teagan in prayer. If it's Hod's will, I pray that he will rescue me from the charges that are being prosecuted against me. I am not guilty of the charges, I made mistakes yes, and I was mislead and I was arrogant and stupid, but I didn't commit the crime I'm being charged. I'm scared to death. But I know the God we serve is a Mighty God and he is victorious. He is the only way. He is my only hope. Amen!
I'm praying for you, Natalie and for your daughter, Teagan. ðŸ™ðŸ™ðŸ™ My sister was in the same situation as you are going through.
Here are two verses that came to mind.
Isaiah 41:10 "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
James 4:7-8 "Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."
