Real Love
“This is real love—not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” - 1 John 4:10
Over the last few days, we have gone into detail about how Jesus is most definitely real. The Bible along with our own personal relationships with Him make this very easy to believe. If you haven’t developed a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, then you might struggle to believe in Him.
But once you have given your life to Jesus, and you allow Him to work in your life, and you have a personal, growing relationship with Him, you see rather quickly just how real He is. But perhaps the most real thing about God is His love for us.
We use that phrase all the time, “I love you.” As teenagers, we say it to someone we are attracted to. We say it to our friends, maybe even our schoolmates or teammates. Sometimes it’s “I love you,” and sometimes it’s “love ya.” Either way, it is something we like to say. It feels nice and it makes the person we say it to feel good.
But do we always mean it? Meaning, is it always real? How far does that love go? What would you do for that person out of love? I can tell you this...God’s love is real. 1 John 4:10 says, “This is real love—not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.”
God doesn’t just say He loves us. He backed it up by having His own son sacrificed in order to gain a personal relationship with us. That is real love. In fact, there is no greater act of love in the history of the world.
Aren’t you thankful for the love of God? That He was willing to sacrifice His Son for you and me?
God’s love is REAL. And we are blessed to experience that love each and every day!
