Someone To Give Wisdom
“Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.” - Proverbs 19:20
As believers in Christ, we need people. God created us with the need for human interaction. It is how we are wired. He never intended for us to do life alone. Let’s face it, life is hard. It is even harder when we don’t have like-minded people walking alongside us to help us through the tough times.
That is why we all need community. We are in the midst of looking at four reasons we all need community, a group of people who are also pursuing God in their lives, to walk beside us through our faith journey. Yesterday, we looked at the first reason we need a community: for encouragement.
But we not only need community for encouragement, but we also need it for wisdom! As you go through life, you are going to come to new situations and circumstances you have never faced before. You are going to be up against things you have no experience facing. And you know what? That is OKAY.
Because God has people He intends to walk beside you, who have gone through what you’re going through! These are people who can serve as mentors in your life. Now, it could be someone older or it could be a peer that just faced these circumstances a little earlier than you did.
Whoever they are, we need people in our lives who are a little wiser than us. People that can come alongside us and give us advice when we face things we have not come across before. It is also nice to have a perspective that isn’t always as emotional as ours.
Sometimes, we can let emotions play a role in our decision. But when you bring someone else into the picture, someone who isn’t buried in it right now, they can give you advice and wisdom from an outside perspective. And they can do that without being blurred with emotions.
It is always nice to be able to have someone who can speak to you in the midst of your current circumstances. And that is exactly why we need a community. We need people who can be that wise voice in our ears when life gets hard.
Do you have a wise friend or group of friends you can turn to? It is so important to have a group or community you can rely on when life gets hard. My prayer is that if you don’t already have that group in your life, you will begin to pray and ask God to provide those wise people for you.
