No Longer Slaves to Sin
“We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.” - Romans 6:6
Over the last couple of days, we have talked about how as our Heavenly Father, God’s “got us.” What that means is that He works on our behalf, in our situations, and in our favor. He is orchestrating everything in our lives in accordance with His will.
His will is the very best-case scenario for our lives, and if we will be obedient, we can live out that will. But I want you to consider what it really means when God says, “I got you.”
What does that look like? First, it means that we are no longer slaves to sin. From the beginning of time, going back to Adam and Eve, human beings have chosen to sin. Now, every child that is born is born with a sinful nature.
And as we sin, we become slaves to it. For many, sin owns them. It owns their thoughts. It owns their hearts. And as a result, it owns the way they live their lives.
But it doesn’t have to! Romans 6:6 says, “We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.”
God has given us a way out. We no longer have to live enslaved to sin. We can choose the other way! What is that other way? HIS WAY! When you choose to obey God, you are breaking free from the handcuffs of sin and stepping out in freedom.
To obey God is to choose freedom in your life. For many, they don’t remember the last time they were truly free. They have been enslaved to sin for as far back as they can remember.
But your life doesn’t have to look like that. Today, God is saying, I got you. You are no longer a slave to sin. Step out in freedom and choose to live the life He created for you!
