Tested... Continuously
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” - Romans 12:2
One thing kids in school hate to hear is, “It’s test day.” Whether it is in class or in life, no one likes to be tested. But it’s testing that reveals how much we have grown. And though God’s tests might not give us a clear letter grade, they do reveal where we are and where we are not.
See, as a Christian, God wants you to continue to grow. You should never become stagnant in your faith. When our faith is tested, there is an opportunity to grow.
Romans 12:2 tells us, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
In this verse, Paul is calling us to be transformed by renewing our minds. When we renew our minds, we are changing how we think. But there is more to it than that. It is not enough just to think about it. Instead, we need to figure out if we can begin to act in this renewed way. How will we know? Through tests.
Tests are the only way for us to see whether we are renewing our minds or not. But here is the thing; it isn’t just one test. This isn’t like an ACT or SAT where you take one test, and if you do great, you go to college.
God is going to test you... and test you... and test you. As you pass the test, you reveal growth. Then it’s time to take it to the next level. And so, as you grow more, there is another test.
The tests of life never stop coming because your growth is never-ending. When tests come your way, don’t get frustrated. Understand they are essential to our growth.
