It’s Not About You
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” - Philippians 2:3
Over the last four days, we have talked about caring for others. Specifically, we’ve talked about looking at those around you, showing them you care, asking them questions, and praying for them. God loves when we take the spotlight off ourselves and take time to really invest in others.
The reason God loves this is because we learn that not everything is about us. We live in a big world, and the God we serve is even bigger. Yet, when we isolate ourselves and isolate our thoughts to only think of the things that concern us, we think of ourselves as the sun the world revolves around.
But as believers, we have given our lives to Christ. Everything revolves around Him. Yet, when Jesus came to earth, He didn’t live as the sun the world revolved around. Instead, He served others. He gave us the perfect example of how we should live.
This life isn’t about us. It’s about serving Him, and we do that by serving those around us. Caring about others and praying for others isn’t for our own gain or blessing…because it’s not about us. It’s about Him.
Philippians 2:3 says, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”
The Bible tells us that, as believers, we don’t walk the way the world walks. The world cares about itself. How can I help me? God has called us to a life of so much more, a life not centered around us but around Him.
If you want to serve God, understand that it’s not about you. It’s about Him. And serving Him means caring for others and putting them above yourself.

This is incredibly spot on, especially if you have a family that depends on you. We must all learn to die to self. When we do that, and it's all about Jesus and about serving others, we will see the darkness of this world dissipate and the light of Christ shine so very bright. "Let your light so shine before men."
