Love Like Jesus
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” - John 13:34
When you serve others and put others first, God changes your heart. I have seen this happen so many times. It is amazing how people’s lives change when they step out and realize the world isn’t all about them.
When we shift our focus from ourselves to others, we not only can have a great impact on their lives, but just the experience of serving can have a profound impact on our lives as well. When we care for others and put others before ourselves, God moves.
He starts to change our perspective, He reveals His purposes for our lives, and then He shows us how to love like He loves. God desires that we love people the way Jesus loved. John 13:34 says, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”
Jesus showed us what it looked like to serve and love others. He could have come to earth and made everything about Himself. He was the King they had been waiting for. He was the coming Savior. Jesus could have easily made His whole life about serving Himself and having others do the same.
But He didn’t. And if He didn’t, who are we to make our lives all about us? Put God first. Then put others before yourself. When asked what the greatest commandment was, Jesus said, love God with all your heart, soul, and mind.
Do you know what the second part of that command was? Love others as yourself. Are you loving others the way you love yourself? Do you prioritize the needs of others like you prioritize your own needs? Do you care for others the way you care for yourself?
Jesus told us to love others as ourselves. Jesus came to serve. Do you want to be like Jesus? It starts with loving like Jesus.
