The Motions
“So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.” - Revelation 3:16
Is your faith stronger than it has ever been? Are you continuing to grow closer to God on a daily basis? What about a weekly basis? At least on a monthly basis, right?
So many believers can go weeks, months, and even YEARS without really seeing their faith grow. Why is this? Because they get caught up in just going through the motions. They do all the things believers are “supposed” to do, but they aren’t actually growing closer to God.
They go to church, sing the worship songs, listen to the message, and then they get up and leave. It doesn’t change them though. Even if they feel convicted, they don’t seem to do anything about it.
They might even pray at night or at meals, but it’s typically the same prayer rehearsed over and over again. Even in their quiet time, it’s just more of something they do to check a box than to actually grow.
Does this sound familiar? Are you caught up going through the motions? If so, break the pattern. This doesn’t mean you have to stop going to church, praying, or spending time alone with God. Quite the opposite, actually.
But instead of doing it to check a box, do it with purpose. Ask God to reveal Himself to you. Ask Him to speak to you about things He wants you to learn and grow from. Your experience with God should be a journey, not a routine.
Don’t get caught going through the motions. Those that go through the motions are what Revelation refers to as “lukewarm.” Revelation 3:16 says, “So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.”
God wants you all in. He doesn’t just want your physical presence; He wants your attention. If you have been going through the motions, it’s time to wake up. Let God lead you and help you grow in your relationship with Him.
