Dying to Ourselves Daily
"And he said to all, 'If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.'"- Luke 9:23
Each day presents a new challenge, a battle between your desires and God’s will. It’s not a question of if you will be tempted, but when. The reality is that there will never be a day when Satan is not at work, trying to lure you off the path God has set for you. With our inherent sinful nature, it becomes essential to “die to ourselves” daily, surrendering our will to Christ and choosing His way over our own.
What does it mean to die to yourself? It’s not a one-time event or a singular act of surrender. It’s a daily choice to put aside your selfish desires and align yourself with God’s purpose for your life. Each morning, you have the opportunity to lay down your own plans and ambitions, choosing instead to follow Jesus and His teachings. It’s about acknowledging that your way isn’t always the best way, and that true fulfillment and peace come from walking in His path.
The struggle is real because our sinful nature is ever-present. Our flesh desires instant gratification, comfort, and control—things that often conflict with God’s plan for us. Satan knows this and uses it to his advantage, creating temptations and distractions designed to pull us away from the path of righteousness. This is why dying to yourself daily is so crucial. It’s not just about resisting temptation; it’s about actively choosing to follow Christ and His way.
Remember, this isn’t about perfect performance or never making mistakes. It’s about a daily, intentional choice to prioritize Christ over yourself, to seek His will above your own. Each day you choose to die to yourself and follow Him, you are aligning your life with His purpose, experiencing His grace, and growing in your faith.
So, as you face the temptations and challenges of each day, remember the call of Jesus: to deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Him. Embrace this call with a willing heart, knowing that through this daily surrender, you are walking in the fullness of His plan and discovering the true joy and fulfillment that comes from living a life fully committed to Christ.
