Not Defined by Performance
"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." – Ephesians 2:10
In a world that constantly tells us to perform, achieve, and succeed, it’s easy to tie our worth to what we do. From the time we’re young, we’re conditioned to believe that our value is based on our performance, whether it’s excelling in school, succeeding at work, or meeting the expectations of others. But the truth is, God doesn’t define you by your performance.
You are not your achievements. You are not the grades you get, the awards you win, or how much praise you receive. Your worth is not based on how perfectly you perform in any area of your life. Performance can be a way to honor God and give our best, but it’s not the measure of who you are.
When we make performance the measuring stick for our value, we put immense pressure on ourselves. We feel like we have to constantly prove ourselves, striving to live up to expectations that can never fully be satisfied. But God’s Word tells us that we are His workmanship, His creation, crafted by His hands with love and intention. Our value is found in who we are to Him, not in what we do.
Doing your best is a good thing. It’s a way to honor God with your gifts and talents. But remember, your identity is not defined by the results of your efforts. You are defined by who God says you are. You are His beloved child, chosen and accepted before you ever earned a single accomplishment.
It’s time to take the pressure off yourself. You don’t have to live in constant fear of failing or feeling like you need to perform for approval. You are already loved, accepted, and valued by God. Your worth comes from Him, not from your achievements. Rest in that truth and know that you are defined by God’s love for you, not by your performance.

Thank you Ed. Heading out to work again this morning. Out in the oil field we go. These readings are one of the things that really help me stay connected while on these runs. So thank you very much. Also reminds me of how this even got started for me. This job is God given and being my employer I followed and hung on to the scripture where it talks about doing all we do for the Lord. The world does judge by performance and in many cases it is destructive if that’s who my concern is for. But when I work for the Lord I know everything is going to be ok. I always miss everyone and I’m gonna miss everyone this time too. I’ll be tuning into service this weekend. Love yall
