Patience in the Waiting

"The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him." – Lamentations 3:25

We’ve all been there. You come to God with a specific need or question, desperate for an answer, and yet, as you open the Bible, it feels like He’s taking you in a completely different direction. You asked for wisdom about a decision or clarity in your life, but instead, you’re reading about patience or forgiveness. It’s frustrating when it feels like God isn’t addressing the reason you came to Him in the first place.

But what if, in those moments, God is doing something even greater than we realize? His silence on the issue we’re focused on doesn’t mean He isn’t working in our lives. Often, God wants to teach us something deeper before He gives us the clarity or answer we seek. It’s in the waiting that He shapes our hearts, refines our character, and prepares us for what’s ahead.
When we come to God with a request, we often expect an immediate response, a clear answer, or a quick fix. But God doesn’t always work on our timeline. His ways are higher than ours, and His timing is perfect. He knows exactly what we need, even when it feels like we’re left waiting.

In those times when we don’t get the answer we’re looking for right away, it’s important to trust Him. Trust that He knows what’s best for us, and trust that He’s working behind the scenes, even when we don’t see it. We might come to God with a request, but He knows what we really need to grow in faith. Sometimes, He might not address the surface issue immediately, but He’ll use the waiting time to refine us in ways we hadn’t anticipated.

The lesson is in the waiting. It’s in the moments where we’re forced to trust God’s timing instead of rushing ahead with our own plans. When we allow Him to teach us whatever He wants to teach us in those quiet moments, we grow stronger in our faith, and we’re better equipped to handle the answers He’ll eventually give.

Thank you Pastor Ed. You’ve helped me in so many ways. Every morning I get up. Get my coffee. Then before I do, say, or read anything I ask God to direct my thoughts my words and my actions to be of maximum usefulness to Him and my fellows. Then I ask for Him to please keep me from doing harm. Some days, like this morning, it takes a bit of a fight for me to even get the words out but that’s the biggest battle I’ll have today if I face it first thing.
