His Domain

“Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven. And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said ‘There will be no more delay!’”
- Revelation 10:5-6
When Jesus comes to earth, as Revelation 10 describes, the mighty angel Jesus Christ Himself has one foot on the water and one foot on the land. He’s straddling between water and land. This posture is a symbolic one that we need to take note of.

The Babylonians, Medes, Persians, the Grecians, and the Roman Empire all had kings and emperors and when they dominated the known land or a geographical area, a king would put one foot on the water, one foot on the land and say, “This is my land!”

What Jesus is doing in the sea and the earth is saying, “I am the maker of heaven and earth, and all of this is mine.” Not just a geographical area, but the circle of the earth, Jesus is saying, this is His domain. And with a posture of dominance, He has one foot in the water and one foot on the land.

Why is this important? Because the chapters before Revelation 10 talked about the demon locusts, 200 million demon soldiers, meteors hitting the water creating tsunamis. There will be global pandemics, global epidemics, global catastrophes and cataclysmic events that lead to earthquakes and Chernobyl water.

We can feel the darkness is closing in but let the bright light of who Jesus is stand up, stand out, and push out any thought that we are losing in this battle. No matter how dark it gets now, two months from now, 20 years from now, or during the times of the Tribulation, God is in control and He will win. This IS His domain, and He will always rule it. Aren’t you thankful that we serve the Master of the winning team?
