Are You A Prophet?
“For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” - 2 Peter 1:21
When you read the title above, what do you think? It is likely that you have never thought of yourself as a prophet. Some people believe prophets are like Christian psychics, given this ability to predict the future or what is coming.
But that is just not the case. Throughout Scripture, there were many prophets. A prophet is a man or woman of God, chosen by God to share truth with people. That’s it. That is what a prophet is.
Whether or not we label ourselves by that word is not the point. We all can qualify to be prophets by these three things:
First, are you a man or woman of God? If you are not a believer or you are still in the process of figuring out this whole “God thing,” you cannot be a prophet. The first step is being committed to the Lord and His purpose for your life.
Second, you have to be chosen by God. As believers, we are God’s chosen people. John 15:16 says, “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, He may give it to you.”
Lastly, you must have a truth to share. The reality is, we all have truths to share. We all go through things, are put in situations, and have gained experiences that shape who we are. The Lord lays hopes, dreams, and visions on our hearts that we are not meant to keep to ourselves. He wants us to share what He has put on our hearts with the world!
Are you a prophet? Don’t get caught up in the title. As a follower of Jesus chosen by Him (according to John 15:16), you are obligated to share what God has put on your heart. The truth He has given inside of you should not remain inside you! Share it with the world! This is your mission. This is your purpose! What truth does God want you to share with the world today?
