You Can’t Out Sin God
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is a gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” - Ephesians 2:8-9
Mercy and grace. The two limitless gifts God has for those who have trusted in Him and given their life to Him. You know what? God has more mercy and grace than you have sin. But what are mercy and grace?
Mercy is when God withholds the punishment you deserve for your sinful acts. Grace is when God gives you what you don’t deserve. Grace is God giving “unmerited rewards.” Isn’t that amazing? We serve a God who not only withholds the bad that we do deserve, but He gives us the good that we don’t deserve.
See, you can’t “out sin” God. You will never be able to sin beyond the mercy and grace that God can extend to you. Ephesians 2:8-9 confirms this when it says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is a gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
See, mercy and grace are not based on what you have done or what can do. You can’t earn it. You can’t be deserving of it. That is exactly the point. It is NOTHING you have done but COMPLETELY what God has done for you.
When you think about sin, you are thinking of yourself. You are thinking that your act is stronger than God’s act. That is exactly what we are doing when we think that our sin outperforms God’s mercy and grace. But that just isn’t the case.
You can’t out sin God. That is why Jesus went to the cross: to overcome your sin, to carry that weight. He’s already taken that sin upon Him. So now, your sin is nothing. And so what God does, in all of His glory, is extend mercy (withholding what you deserve) and grace (giving you that which you do not deserve).
All of this is accessible to you if you are a believer! If you are struggling with sin, give it to God, today. And allow Him to show you what His mercy and His grace look like in your life.
