Because His Love
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” - John 3:16
Yesterday, we discussed a concept that is contrary to the way we naturally think. When it comes to salvation, rewards, or blessings, our minds start thinking the way they do with everything else we try to obtain: we have to earn everything.
To be gifted something we haven’t earned is just too good to be true. There is always a price for the things we want. So we are constantly figuring out: What is the price? And is it worth it?
But God rewrote the rules. When it comes to salvation and blessings from Him, it is all given, not earned. You cannot earn God’s love. You can’t earn God’s blessing, and you sure cannot earn salvation. He gives it to you.
“Pastor, why would He do that? Why would He give us something we do not deserve?” The most famous verse in the Bible answers that question. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Did you catch that? For God SO LOVED the world. It’s because of His love. That is why He gives so freely. That is why you do not have to earn it. Because the truth is, we are incapable of earning such rewards.
God knew the lives He wants to give us, we could not earn. The salvation we need to get to Him, we could not earn. The blessings and rewards He wants to shower upon us, we could never earn.
So He gave it to us because He loves us. Do you want to know how much God loves you? Look around. Look at what you have. Look at how He has blessed your life. All of the things that are better than you deserve…make no mistake. Those were given not earned.
And they were given because of His love for you!
